• What age range is the Year of Kindness subscription for?
The Department of Kindness art kits are appropriate for kids and adults of all ages, although not recommended for children under 3 due to small parts. Projects are easily adaptable with the level of detail and discussion to meet young people where they are. Children 3-6 will require significant adult supervision and assistance but will be able to successfully complete projects together. Children ages 7-12 will be enjoy a little more independence and be able to complete most of the challenges on their own (or as a fun activity to do together with an adult!) and take their creativity to the next level. Teens and adults can also use the weekly challenges to set aside intentional time to focus on a kind action and bring a new level of depth to the creative challenges.

  • How much does it cost?
The entire year is $260. That’s four boxes of 52 weekly projects at only $5 each. You will also pay tax + shipping which depend on where you live. For example, if you live locally in Atlanta, sales tax is 8.9% and shipping would be about $10.

  • How does billing work?

Billing is set up as a one-year subscription. You will get charged $65 + tax + shipping four times throughout the year. Your first payment will be charged when you order, and subsequent payments will be automatically withdrawn every three months from your order date, regardless of when you actually receive your boxes.

  • When will my first box ship? How long will it take to arrive?

Department of Kindness boxes ship out four times per year, with the seasons. Roughly, June, September, December, March. Your first kit will be the next season that ships out depending on when you signed up. For example, if you sign up in July, your first box will ship in September with the fall kit. Boxes ship from Atlanta, Georgia and will be shipped Priority mail through USPS.

  • Can I use the same kit for multiple children?

Short answer: yes! (For kids in the same household or if you want to invite a friend over; not intended for classroom use- but if you’re a teacher we’ve got you covered, too.)
Long answer: also yes- it is a great way to practice sharing! Since this isn’t a typical “craft kit,” multiple children can easily work together from one kit if they’re willing to share supplies, cards, and challenge pins. To set up expectations, we’d recommend alternating which child gets to open the challenge envelope, mark the check list, and keep the button each week. Or let one child open the challenge, and the other child keep the button. Just come up with a system that works for you and stick with it so everyone knows what to expect. If you would like to request multiple weekly badge pins for children sharing one subscription, just send us an email and we can work that out as an add-on option and we’ll include them at-cost (about $1/button).

  • Can I change or update my subscription information?

  • Is The Department of Kindness a 501(c)3? Is my purchase tax deductible?
