We're so glad you're here.

The Department of Kindness believes the world would be a better place with more creative kids (and a few adults) spreading kindness wherever they go.

That’s why we created this year-long, interactive adventure where kids embark on Kindness Day missions that are both simple and imaginative enough to inspire them to keep going week after week.

When each mission is completed, they will receive its accompanying Kindness Badge, and learn more about what kindness means to them. Share progress and build community with other kids and classrooms across the nation setting out to build a kinder world with #TheDepartmentOfKindness.

How it works…

Joining the Department of Kindness — or gifting it to someone super special to you — is as easy as 1-2-3.

1

Sign up or gift it

An annual subscription to the Department of Kindness costs $65 per shipment (that’s $5 per project), and ships four times in one year. This covers the cost of the high-quality kits and also helps support Paint Love.

2

Receive your boxes

The Department of Kindness boxes arrive seasonally — summer, fall, winter, spring — so you will receive a total of four boxes in your annual subscription. Each box comes with 13 secret missions inside, totaling 52 secret missions by the end of the year. After you sign up, you’ll receive the upcoming season’s box. That way, everyone around the world participating in the Department of Kindness will be working on the same missions at the same time!

3

PICK A WEEKLY KINDNESS DAY

We recommend setting aside a specific day each week as “Kindness Day” — a consistent time to open one of the secret mission envelopes and embark on its quest to share kindness for the week. Having a set day and time will help your kindness agent build anticipation and look forward to spreading joy!

When your agent finishes their kindness mission, they can be awarded the unique Kindness Badge accompanying it, always working toward the goal of earning all 52 badges by the end of the year.

BONUS: Share your Progress weekly, and follow along with how other agents are spreading kindness, with #TheDepartmentofKindness and @thedepartmentofkindness.

Why kindness?

Practicing kindness is a powerful way to show children that they have the ability to change the world.

The DoK was created by Paint Love — a nonprofit organization that brings extraordinary arts programming to youth facing poverty or trauma. We believe that with a little creativity and intentionality kids will be able to imagine and create a better future.

Just like Paint Love’s programming, The Department of Kindness' prompts teach empathic thinking and give opportunities to develop the imagination kids need to dream up a bright future and the creativity required to make it happen. Through the DoK, you can also teach youth about the value of giving back, because all of the profits go toward bringing art to kids in need of a little extra support.
